Refractive Surgery Co-Management

For many patients, reducing dependence on glasses and contact lenses can be life-changing. Today’s refractive surgery options offer more choices than ever before, and selecting the right procedure depends on your prescription, age, eye health, lifestyle, and visual goals.

At A Visual Affair, we provide comprehensive refractive surgery evaluations and co-management services. Our role is to help determine whether you are a good candidate for vision correction surgery, educate you about your options, coordinate care with experienced surgeons, and provide pre-operative and post-operative care throughout the process.

LASIK

LASIK remains one of the most popular vision correction procedures available. During LASIK, a thin flap is created on the surface of the cornea and a laser is used to reshape the underlying tissue, reducing or eliminating nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Many patients achieve excellent vision with minimal discomfort and rapid visual recovery, often returning to normal activities within a day or two.

PRK

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) was the original laser vision correction procedure and remains an excellent option for many patients.

Unlike LASIK, PRK does not involve creating a corneal flap. Instead, the laser reshapes the surface of the cornea directly. PRK is often recommended for patients with thinner corneas, certain occupational requirements, or those who may not be ideal LASIK candidates.

Although recovery is generally longer than LASIK, visual outcomes are comparable.

SMILE

Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) is a newer minimally invasive laser procedure designed primarily for the correction of nearsightedness and astigmatism.

SMILE utilizes a small incision rather than a traditional LASIK flap and may offer advantages for selected patients, particularly those concerned about flap-related issues or dry eye symptoms.

Implantable Collamer Lens (EVO ICL)

Not all patients are ideal candidates for laser vision correction. For patients with high levels of nearsightedness, thin corneas, or certain prescription ranges, an EVO ICL may be an excellent alternative.

This procedure involves placing a specialized lens inside the eye while preserving the natural lens. Many patients achieve outstanding visual quality and sharpness, even with prescriptions that may not be suitable for LASIK or PRK.

Refractive Lens Exchange and Premium Cataract Surgery

For some patients, particularly those over age 50, lens-based procedures may provide the best long-term visual solution. These procedures involve replacing the eye’s natural lens with an advanced intraocular lens designed to reduce dependence on glasses for distance, intermediate, and near vision.

Comprehensive Evaluation and Guidance

Not every patient is a candidate for every procedure. Our doctors perform a thorough evaluation and discuss the advantages, limitations, risks, and expected outcomes of each option. We believe patients should fully understand their choices before making a decision regarding vision correction surgery.

Our goal is to help you select the procedure that best aligns with your vision needs, lifestyle, and long-term ocular health.

Pre- and Post-Operative Care

Our office works closely with experienced refractive surgeons and provides comprehensiveco-management before and after surgery. We monitor healing, answer questions, and ensure you receive the highest level of care throughout your surgical journey.

If you are interested in reducing your dependence on glasses or contact lenses, we invite you to schedule a refractive surgery consultation to learn which options may be right for you.
